Ontario Electricity RFPs
In support of the Ontario Power Authority's (OPA) electricity generation capacity Request for Proposals (RFPs), the IESO has created this site as a convenient location for information on making a new or modified connection to the IESO-controlled grid or distribution systems in Ontario. Also provided is information on how to become a participant in the IESO-administered markets.
The OPA's Generation Procurement Website is the main source for all information pertaining to RFPs for new generation in the province of Ontario. All RFP documents are available on this website.
When a distributed generation project is smaller than 10 MW, the proponent deals directly with the LDC and there is no requirement to submit an SIA application to the IESO. If a number of distributed generation projects connect behind a transformer station and result in a power flow injection from the distribution system into the IESO-controlled grid (ICG) under light load conditions, the LDC is then required to submit an SIA application to the IESO and request that the IESO perform an SIA for the affected transformer station.
A number of important and interrelated steps are involved in making a new or modified connection to the IESO-controlled grid or distribution systems in Ontario.
RFP participants are required to complete a Connection Assesment with the IESO and are required to submit a complete
SIA (System Impact Assessment) application approximately 45 calendar days before the RFP due date.
