The Markets:
The Market Rules and Market Manuals

Market Rules

The Market Rules govern the IESO-controlled grid and the IESO-administered markets, with the goal of ensuring an efficient, competitive and reliable wholesale electricity market.

Market Manuals

In order to operate the markets, the IESO has produced procedures, forms, standards and policies. The Market Manuals provide the details of these procedures and policies.

Compliance with the Market Rules

The Market Surveillance Panel (MSP) monitors, investigates and reports on market behaviour in Ontario’s competitive electricity market. Its objective is to contribute to the development of an efficient, competitive and reliable wholesale market for electricity and ancillary services in Ontario.

Both the IESO and market participants are bound to comply with the rules, and the IESO is responsible for ensuring compliance. In case of disagreement, the rules set out a procedure for resolving disputes.

Accessing the Market Rules and Market Manuals

The complete Market Rules and Market Manuals are available in the Market Documents section of the IESO Web Site.
