Compliance Auditing

Reliability Standards for Ontario Market Participants

The IESO’s Market Assessment and Compliance Division (MACD) is accountable for monitoring and enforcement of compliance with reliability standards.

As part of this mandate, MACD has begun a program to audit Ontario Market Participants compliance with  NERC Reliability Standards and NPCC criteria.  The details of the program were developed in consultation with Market Participants through a working group of the Reliability Standards Standing Committee and SE-93.

The MACD implementation plan provides a subset of the NERC Reliability Standards and NPCC Criteria which will be included in the audit program for the year.

Market Participants will be notified at least 90 days prior to the start of an audit. The audit notification will include a request for information to confirm compliance with a subset of the standards which apply to their company. Information will have to be submitted prior to the start of the audit.

Please refer to the Compliance Auditing Process Manual for details of the audit process. A collection of online resources for Market Participants selected for an audit is available here.

All Market Participants who have been mapped to one or more NERC functional model roles.
