Ontario Market Design Committee

On January 20, 1998 the Minister of Energy, Science and Technology established the Market Design Committee (MDC) to advise on the structure of Ontario’s proposed electricity market. The committee membership include the chair, Ronald J. Daniels, Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto and industry and customer representatives. Their mandate was to provide recommendations to the Government on the design of an Independent Market Operator (IMO), as defined in the White Paper, and to propose the rules and protocols that will be needed to launch a fully competitive electricity market in Ontario in the year 2000.

The Committee prepared numerous documents and submitted four reports to the Minister throughout 1998:

A CD-ROM version of this material is available from the IMO. It contains all of the publications of the MDC including the four reports of the MDC. Copies of the CD are available for $10.00 Cdn each in Canada and the US, including applicable taxes, shipping and handling and $35.00 US for requests outside of North America.
